Dr. Li Hang: What Should I Learn Well and Why Do I Learn
On December 12th, the fourth lecture of the Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data (SRIBD) public science series on big data, titled "What Should I Learn Well and Why Do I Learn?" was held at Longgang Foreign Language School, with nearly 200 first-year students and teachers participating. The guest speaker for this session was Dr. Li Hang, a Research Scientist at the Big Data Laboratory for Information Systems in SRIBD Attendees included Yu Tiegen, Secretary of the Communist Party Committee of the Big Data Research Institute of CUHK (Shenzhen), and Li Xilin, Principal of Longgang Foreign Language School. The event was moderated by Tu Danni, Director of the School’s Curriculum Center.
Dr. Li Hang began by using the students’ class schedules as an introduction, posing questions such as, “What courses do you like?” and “Which subject interests you the most?” He then progressively compared the class schedules across three stages—middle school, high school, and university—helping students understand the importance of foundational studies for mastering specialized knowledge in the future.
Dr. Li then engaged in a deeper discussion about his field of expertise—wireless communication. He provided the students with a comprehensive and insightful academic experience, covering basic principles, the historical evolution of wireless communication, and communication tools. He skillfully connected this knowledge with what students are currently learning, creating an interactive dialogue with them. Additionally, he combined theoretical concepts with real-world applications, helping students better understand the practical uses of 5G technology in daily life, sparking their curiosity and creating an energized classroom atmosphere.
The students enjoyed exploring the vast world of professional knowledge, gaining a richer and deeper understanding of wireless communication technologies. During the discussion session, students interacted with Dr. Li, asking questions such as "What courses should one master to become a scientist?" and "What kind of learning goals should I set?" Dr. Li answered each question and praised the students for their bold and imaginative ideas.
