The 2023 Annual Summary and 2024 Work Plan Meeting of SRIBD Successfully Held
On January 19, the 2023 Annual Summary and 2024 Work Plan Meeting of SRIBD was successfully held in Room 103, Dao Yuan Building, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. The meeting was attended by Academician Luo Zhiquan, Director of SRIBD; Professor Cai Xiaoqiang, Vice Director; Yu Tiegen; Dr. Zhang Xin; Chief Scientist Academician Li Haizhou; and all staff members. The meeting was chaired by Vice Director Yu Tiegen.
Director Luo Zhiquan first delivered a keynote speech titled "Building on the Past, Creating New Glories." He briefly reviewed the development history of the institute, the construction of its talent team, and its industry-university-research collaborations. He summarized the main scientific achievements of the institute over the past five years, the progress in building innovation platforms, and the development of its self-sustaining capabilities. He reaffirmed the institute's long-term development goal of creating an internationally leading open and shared research platform for big data.
Director Luo Zhiquan then reported and summarized the overall work of the institute in 2023. He detailed the completion status of the ten major tasks, overall indicators, and fund allocation for the year. He highlighted several key achievements in 2023: significant breakthroughs in three major technical projects (SRCON, HuatuoGPT, and XOPT); smooth progress in building three innovation platforms; new advancements in the flagship project of Guangdong Province; the official establishment of the Party branch and a good start in Party-community culture construction; a breakthrough in the transformation of achievements with the establishment of joint ventures and patent licensing; and steady progress in the industrialization process. Director Luo highly praised the institute's accomplishments in 2023 and expressed heartfelt gratitude to all staff for their hard work and persistent efforts throughout the year.
Director Luo Zhiquan outlined the institute's future five-year plan and deployment, emphasizing that the institute has already established a strong reputation and brand. It has built teams with strong research capabilities, particularly in areas like network optimization, general solving technologies, and artificial intelligence (GPT). He stressed that each laboratory and the three major innovation platforms should align around three main directions, systematically integrate, adjust their layouts, and focus on major directions with concentrated investment. The goal is to conduct purposeful and organized scientific research to create value for the socio-economic landscape, ultimately becoming a significant technological force in Shenzhen and nationally.
During the meeting, the institute also awarded the "Outstanding Contribution Award" and "Outstanding Service Award" for the year 2023. Wang Longfei from the Optimization Solver Development Laboratory received the annual "Outstanding Contribution Award," while Lin Rong from the Public Relationships Office was honored with the institute's annual "Outstanding Service Award."
