Translation: The Forum on Mathematics and Industrial Applications Successfully Concludes
On February 2, 2023, the "Forum on Mathematics and Industrial Applications" was successfully held at Room W201 of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). The event was organized by the Shenzhen International Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, and co-organized by the Mathematics and Industry Committee of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM), the Shenzhen Institute of Big Data, and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen). The forum invited experts and scholars from the fields of mathematics and industry to give talks, offering a multi-faceted analysis of the experiences in the application of mathematics to industry. The forum was conducted both in-person and via live-streaming, garnering widespread attention and enthusiastic feedback. More than 80 people attended in person, and the live-streams on the Shenzhen Institute of Big Data’s Video Channel and Bilibili garnered over 1,000 views in total.
At the opening ceremony, Academician Ma Zhiming, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the director of the Shenzhen International Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, delivered the opening speech.
Professor Luo Zhiquan, Vice President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen) and Director of the Shenzhen Institute of Big Data, congratulated the successful convening of the Forum on Mathematics and Industrial Applications.
Professor Wang Xiaoping, Executive Deputy Director of the Shenzhen International Center for Industrial and Applied Mathematics and Presidential Chair Professor of the School of Science and Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), presided over the forum and delivered a welcome address.
Academician Zhang Pingwen's report was titled "Research on the Implementation of Applied Mathematics." He began by clarifying the relationship between applied mathematics and pure mathematics, offering his insights on the values of applied mathematics.
Professor Lu Yao's report was titled "Medical Image Analysis Methods and Their Industrial Applications."
Professor Yao Tao's report was titled "Machine Learning and Operations Optimization for Big Data: Scientific Research and Industrial Applications."
The roundtable forum focused on the theme of "Exploring the Path of Mathematics to Propel Industry." Participants engaged in in-depth discussions on several key topics, including how to better assist companies in formulating problems, effective methods for training talent in applied mathematics, and the institutional mechanisms needed to support this process.
